Chetan Bhagat
There are very few people who aren’t acquainted with his name yet. Chetan Bhagat has become the new youth icon in India, with the immense success of his three books. The first one, ‘Five Point Someone’ was about three mediocre students in IIT, who struggled to keep their grades up and tried out different methods to keep up. The second book, ‘One Night @ The Call Centre’ was about the call centre culture and 6 people who had their own problems and finally when they couldn’t take it anymore, they got a call from God. The third book, ‘The Three Mistakes of My Life’ was released a few months ago and is already selling like hot buns. The story is about business, cricket and religion. It’s about a man’s confession of the mistakes he made and it also depicts the Indian situation and India’s take on all the three subjects.
With every book, the sales figures have multiplied by ten. The most amazing thing about Chetan Bhagat is that he isn’t even from a literary background. He was a student of IIT, Delhi and then of IIM, Ahmedabad. He had been staying in Hong Kong for 11 years and has currently relocated to Mumbai with his wife, Anusha and twin boys, Ishan and Shyam. He is working as an investment banker here. Although he is a hot shot writer now and is recognized almost everywhere, he has not lost his humility and is very much down to earth. The most appealing thing about his writes is his writing style. You can very much relate to what he writes and the characteristics of his characters. He believes in giving a happy ending to his stories and the youth loves him for the chord he strikes with them through his writing.
All of Chetan Bhagat’s books are a must read and the good thing is all of his books cost only 95 rupees. He kept the cost down so that all the young people can easily buy a copy. He’s a great writer and also a great person. I’m sure you’ll love his books too.
